MEET

Kim Richards

I’m a born and raised San Diegan, a mom of two girls and an entrepreneur passionate about easing the burden on women postpartum. I’ve been dreaming about supporting women and mothers since becoming a mother myself in 2018, and now in 2024 I’m pouring my heart and soul into Caring for Mama. I launched the business with the mission to deliver love and care to women with young children, and I’m doing that through curated care packages that I’m shipping across the US. I source organic, nourishing products from local, women-owned businesses and package them with only the woman in mind.

Q: Hey! Thanks for taking the time to be here. Can you start by sharing a little bit about yourself and your family? *

My husband and I met while he was teaching in San Diego 12 years ago and now we’re raising our 2 and 5 year old daughters bilingual in English and Spanish. We’re grateful for the opportunity to travel to his hometown in Spain every year and immerse the girls in the culture as well.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do? *

I dove into entrepreneurship with my first business, KDR PR, in 2011 after years in corporate communications. I shifted my focus to K-12 education and community engagement, and networked my way into building the STEAM education movement in San Diego. After seven years serving dozens of clients and speaking in New York and Doha, I slowed down to start my family. And now through my journey becoming a mother, I’ve found my way back to entrepreneurship doing work I truly feel called to do. I love that I get to spend my time connecting with and supporting women and mothers in the moments they need it most. I’ve always been a bridge builder in my work and now I’m doing that in support of maternal mental health and for my fellow mamas everywhere.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

My whole life (minus college)

Q: If you could go back in time what advice would you give yourself? *

To lead from your heart, to allow your intuition to guide you and to let go of control!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years? *

Continuing to grow Caring for Mama, expanding internationally to explore the cross-cultural overlaps or differences women are experiencing around the world as they become mothers and adjust to their new minds, bodies and spirits (and identities). To also become an herbalist and more fully integrate plant-based wellness in my home and in the work I do with women.

Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?

There are so many but right now I’m most interested in the YMCA’s Turning Point program, Postpartum Health Alliance and Spark Mamas
